Tallies:
Pc: 5 (Dr. Manette, Larry, TarkusAB, John, Hunter)
Xbox 360: 2 (Nathan, Dajon Cosis)
Tarkus and I have been talking about a LAN party lately, and its about time I posted a thread so we can figure out what were going to do. The best weekend this month is the four day weekend (March 21-24) which has easter on Sunday. But I think Friday to Saturday would work.
So we have two choices; PC or XBOX 360. Ive asked everyone their preferences, and at the moment its 4 for pc and 3 for xbox 360. But I want confirmation, so heres the list of games wed play for each. Post what system you want, whether you can come on the 21-22 or not, and comment on the games list.
PC Games (total of 10)
FPS:
Just so everyone knows why manette included mac compatable - Im on a mac, and might be able to bring it to play those games
Also, it MAY be possible for me to get a working copy of XP on the server so I can use it for gaming - I just need to check hardware specs and a weekend to go through it (have to install 98, then me, then xp - thats the order we bought the upgrade disks in.
List looks great, but whered DOOM II go?
Anyways, Im all for PC.
I took DOOM II off because its not mac compatible (or is it, I didnt actually check) and because the setup is rather complicated. From past experience, weve found anything that isnt very easy to setup (ie install and play) takes us more time than we want to take.
Quote :What may work better for me is 20-21, cause then I have more time to do stuff like visit colleges.
I actually didnt even think about that, Thursday to Friday would work just as well. Either one works for me.
@Dajon,
Yea, youre Mac is all you need.
DOOM II is actually Mac compatible.
There are a few programs that allow it to work.
I think its PC then, since the majority want to go that way. Well keep the other games on for now, since we havent completely ruled them out.
Hunter wants to come too, I asked him about it today. Which would make an even eight people instead of seven. Itd also make games more balanced since wed have another larry-esque player.
Heres a list of games I suggest we limit ourselves to:
Starcraft: Brood War
Warcraft III: Frozen Throne
Diablo II
Wolfenstein: ET
OpenArena
And now, because I like being organized, I present:
The Official LAN Party Guide
Type: PC
Where: Kevins house
When: Afternoon of Thusday the 20th - Morning of Friday the 21st
First off, here are the games we will be playing, they all work on Windows XP and Mac OS X.
We have some problems with the votes on the two lan party types. I talked with Larry today, and hes decided 360 is better because of setup time and the fact that theres less things that could go wrong. His argument is pretty well founded, too.
So that leaves Dr. Manette, Tarkus, and John for PC and REMrules, Larry, Dajon Cosis, and Nathan for 360. 360 wins 4 to 3...
So heres what Im going to do. REMrules, Tarkus, John, and Larry are all set on their decisions. So Im going to ask Dajon and Nathan to choose definite sides and then Ill be the last one. Its cause those are two who are the ones who arent as concerned with what system we play on. Plus, while I want to play computers, Im not adverse to 360.
Actually, Hunter would be for PC
And Larry told me he was 50/50, not pro 360, he said "i just wanted a tie"
So wouldnt it be 4 to 3 PC at that point?
As I said about my computer having troubles with OpenGL, nevermind, Ive got that working, the drivers just were not updating properly.
BTW, Im 100% for PC over 360. I dont want to play FPSs for 12 hours. Think about it.
Yes it is true, the 360 party would be easier to set up.
THE LAN PARTY IS PC.
Okay, Im going to make the final decision. Im calling PC for this LAN party for a few reasons. First off, there are more unique games to play on the PC (RTS, RPG, and FPS), while the 360 has only FPS. Second, while I love Halo, it will get boring. And once it does, we will have no other alternative types of games to play. And third, it is after all the popular choice.
I know some people are worried about the amount of setup required. But we have two weeks from this thursday to get ready. Everyone can see the list of games and versions well need in Tarkuss post. So besides downloading two freeware games, you only have to make sure Starcraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II are set. If you do not have access to any discs that you need, tell me or Tarkus and well be able to get you them before the LAN party. Ill even personally come to your house and hand you the disc.
Final results:
PC- Dr. Manette, TarkusAB, John, Hunter, and *Larry* (5)
360- REMrules, Nathan, Dajon, and *Larry* (4)
